Nightjar walk on Chobham Common
Over the moon to hear and see our very first Nightjars! This special bird has a distinctive, even mechanical, churring call, and light, floaty flight. As a ground nesting bird, it's dependent on rare heathland found in the south of England and is vulnerable to disturbance. Sorry, no photographs the bird as it is very agile in flight - better luck next time! Big thanks the the Surrey Wildlife trust and Thames Basin Heaths Partnership who organised the walk. Hear the Nightjar's churring call on the film page.
